Take your message beyond the road

If you’ve spent money organising an event that attracts 600 people, what is it worth to engage many more people online? One of our long-time clients, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), recently took to the road with a series of events to build understanding of one of its key programs among cattle and sheep. Key staff from the company visited each state of Australia throughout March and April to present up-to-date information on the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) meat grading system. The whole event series attracted around 600 livestock producers, as well as some livestock agents and meat processors. Fairly late in the event planning phase, MLA approached us with an idea to film the MSA Roadshow, to extend the message beyond those people who could attend a face-to-face seminar. “We were thinking about filming the forums ourselves but to his...

Drone video rules in Australia

Posted by on Mar 23, 2016 in Articles, Corporate Videos Articles | Comments Off on Drone video rules in Australia

The Australian Government Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has strictly controlled commercial use of drones in Australia since 2002. Operators of unmanned aircraft are considered part of Australia’s aviation industry. They must be licensed with CASA and adhere to strict regulations for flying drones. Be mindful of the rules when making aerial footage. CASA will prosecute people who flout the law. Australian drone regulations In Australia, a large UAV cannot fly: higher than 400 ft (122 m) within close proximity to an aerodrome in icy conditions (without anti-ice or de-icing equipment) in poor visibility (less than 5 km or 1000 ft) over designated airspace over populous areas (without certification for high altitude). Flying small video drones Small UAVs do not require approval in Australia if they remain: clear of designated airspace, aerodromes and populous areas below 400 ft (122 m)...

Anvil Media’s video production drones

Anvil Media has chosen the DJI Phantom 3 Pro as our workhorse drone. With 3-axis stabilisation and a 4K camera, it offers fantastic versatility and outstanding picture quality for a reasonable cost. But we’ll soon have another very exciting option: the famous Lily Drone. Nicknamed the ‘selfie drone’, Lily follows its subject around without requiring the operator to do anything! The inventors had in mind self-obsessed surfers and extreme sports people. But we immediately saw the potential to strap the tracking device on, oh, let’s say a piece of farm machinery, and have the drone follow that around the paddock. Lily is so new that we’ll be one of the first companies in the world to own one when the first manufacturing batch arrives in July. Exciting times. Corporate video celebrates sense of community

Distance presents no obstacle to Anvil Media. We have people all over the country and can mobilise our troops quickly and efficiently. Recently, we produced a corporate video for Northern Project Contracting (NPC), a highly successful indigenous business operating in the minerals processing sector and expanding into other industries. NPC needed an audio-visual production that would convey the sense of community that surrounds its operations. NPC’s Executive Chairman, Brad Jackson, was presenting at the annual World Indigenous Business Forum held in Namibia in October 2013, and he knew that visualising complex information was much easier than using PowerPoint slides. After initial telephone discussions, we met with Brad in Brisbane to obtain a brief. At the meeting, we heard that NPC was sponsoring a rodeo in the remote Queensland community of Doomadgee that weekend. We immediately mobilised a team to...

When a family-owned business in Queensland, Crest Electronics, wanted to make a corporate video, it selected Anvil Media based on the strength of its existing work. Dirk Olbertz, one of the company’s directors, recalled the decision process. ‘When I was looking to put the video together, I googled “corporate video production” and spent about half a day looking at all different websites,’ Dirk said. ‘I liked the Primo (Smallgoods) corporate video that you did. It really appealed to me. And when I spoke to the lads (at Anvil Media) about putting our video together, I said, “I just want to emulate what you did with Primo”, and they did.’ Crest Electronics regularly makes presentations to potential clients and partners, and Dirk explained that they wanted an audio-visual presentation that would quickly convey the depth of the business. ‘Everyone’s doing...
